Questions About Clean Truck Check in California?

What is the Clean Truck Check program?

The Clean Truck Check program, initiated by the California Air Resources Board , requires periodic emissions testing for heavy-duty vehicles over 14,000 pounds to ensure their emissions control systems are functioning properly. This program aims to reduce air pollution from these vehicles operating on California roads.

The program applies to most heavy-duty diesel and alternative fuel vehicles over 14,000 pounds, regardless of whether they are registered in California or out of state. Exemptions exist for certain categories, such as zero-emission vehicles and some new vehicles with low NOx emissions.

Compliance is enforced through annual reporting and testing requirements. Vehicles must be tested by a Cali clean truck check testing, and any vehicle that fails to meet the standards must be repaired to pass subsequent tests. Failure to comply can result in fines and restrictions on vehicle operation in California .

Vehicle owners must pay a $30 annual compliance fee per vehicle as part of the program. The compliance fee must be paid through the Clean Truck Check Vehicle Inspection System (CTC-VIS) portal. For more information and how-to videos about registering and using the CTC-VIS Portal, visit https://cleantruckcheckpro.com/ctc-vis-portal

Non-compliance can result in fines, vehicle registration holds, and potential restrictions on operating the vehicle within California. Vehicles that do not pass emissions tests are also subject to repair and retesting requirements.

Cali clean truck check provides resources such as guidelines, lists of certified testers, and technical assistance to help vehicle owners understand and comply with the program requirements. For more details.

    How CARB Compliance Works

California Legislation SB 210 requires all vehicles with a gross weight of 14,000lbs or more to go through the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection and maintenance program. The California Air Resource Board (CARB) oversees that vehicles meet the program requirements and will deem the vehicle as compliant or non-compliant. In order to be CARB compliant you must do the following.

    CARB Compliance Requirements:

    1. Registered with CA Air Resource Board:
      • Register your vehicle with CARB’s Clean Truck Check Program.
    2. Pay a $30 annual fee per vehicle:
      • Once you have registered your vehicle you will need to pay a $30 Annual Compliance fee per year.
    3. Perform your Clean Truck Check Periodic testing:
      • Starting 2025 a Clean Truck Check Test must be performed to meet requirements. This test is like a smog check but for diesel vehicles. California State requires two tests semi-annually for all vehicles except RVs and agricultural vehicle which need only one per year.

    Our Mission

To lead California's commercial transportation sector into a cleaner, sustainable future by facilitating compliance with state regulations, fostering the adoption of zero and low-emission vehicles, and ensuring a healthier environment for generations to come.

    Why Clean Trucks Matter

Trucks are the backbone of California's economy, transporting goods across the state and beyond. However, traditional diesel trucks contribute significantly to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Transitioning to clean truck technologies not only helps in combating climate change but also protects public health by reducing harmful emissions.
